New projects, musings, imagery....

Stag Goddess
Collage, nail enamel 14" x 9"

I am playing with some imagery, illustrations of current thoughts and places in my mind, writing a lot too...it all feels funny to put it mildly, but this is where I am right now...

Lame Deer

Is the deer my spirit guide now?
Staring at me with his bloody mouth,
tongue lagging out, terrorized,
as everyone watches him smash
his face into the chain link fence
over and over and over again.

Can he not see the fence, or feel the pain?
Does he think it will give if he smashes harder?

Bleeding his eyes graze my soul,
and I feel his.

He didn't know where to go.

I saw him again yesterday,
leaping across my path in the meadow.

Audacity of Hope

These are two small mixed medium paintings on paper. I actually made these last year, 2009. I have been thinking about working daily on paper, thinking how it was a beginning for me and is always a touch stone.

Hi Everyone,
I want to thank all who came to the Artscape Studio Tour! It was a wonderfully successful event. I loved meeting so many art lovers and sharing discussion about my artwork. The event has prompted me to keep my painting studio open to the public for the Summer, every Saturday from 12-5pm. Starting this weekend, anyone can come by to see the studio,(new works, works in progress as well as older pieces). And as always, I am open by appointment.

Trees

These are a group of small paintings, 8" x 12" each on sandpaper. I was experimenting with mediums. Something I've noticed lately in my recent paintings is an interest in forms. Usually my landscapes are horizon to land-linear. Recently, I've been much more attentive to the "round" nature forms, trees, flowers....

Male Figure

Figure 3/11
32" x 40"
Crayon, Tempura on Paper

This is a quick drawing/painting from a life drawing class a cpl wks ago. I would really like to be going to more life drawing sessions( unfortunetly no room in my current schedule)...the figure drawing from real life is so liberating, theres no "thought" or "pre-meditation", so I am just a creative vessel in a very present state, which allows for an easy looseness in my work. This feeling and way of working/being I then take back to the studio....ahhhhh, I want more of that!

Something fun to note about this painting is that the yellow halo around the Mountains, is actually metallic gold..so in real life it glows, I love those metallics, yummy:)

Winter Works on Paper

Images are 19" x 13" on 24" x 28" Paper

These are recent winter inspired works on paper. Its funny to observe this evolution of work...its all on paper, I wonder when I'll move to canvas again. I feel like all these are the warm up jumps for the leap I want to take to a larger-large scale. I want to move physically into these paintings with my entire body, not just my right arm....I feel the momentum building for that leap, but I also am greatly enjoying their place now.

Winter Suki

Winter Suki
17" x 22"
Mixed Medium On Paper

This painting captures this wonderful feeling and idea that I've been practicing in Yoga recently. Its about the honey spot in a difficult place, a sweetness you feel when relaxed in a tight position. I love feeling that physically in Yoga, and I love using that concept with current life challenges....Today I felt the bitter winter cold but there was a soft sky, causing tension and peace all at once.

Above The Hudson River

"Above the Hudson River"
8.5' x 10.5"
Mixed Medium on Paper

A little sketch/painting, inspired by yesterdays view.

Available for purchase: $300
(The colors are more saturated and deeper, perhaps a little less yellow, yet a brighter yellow. The brown is a rich Burnt Sienna...its very hard to get an accurate color representation on the computer. Every time you tilt the screen it completely changes the contrast/and colors....grrrrr)
